September
We are starting off this month after an unexpected break from a hurricane/tropical storm (Isaac). We've been busy with our ELA, and should have our tall tales published soon. Tall tales have larger-than-life characters and use exaggeration; they are usually humorous. We are also reviewing place value and number operations in math. I will be posting some photos from our science experiment The Fastest Person. This week, we will start discussing properties of matter. We will also begin new social studies activities; we will learn about several Native American tribes (Mayans, Aztecs, and Incas). LINK HERE

Welcome
Hello crew and parents,
I am excited for the new school year. I have heard wonderful things about everyone passing the LEAP test, last year. I'm glad my fifth graders know how to work hard to reach their goals.
This year our classroom has a nautical theme, so this blog will too. I look forward to using this blog to document the journey of the fifth-grade class. I will be posting pictures, announcements, links, and more. Right now, I am getting our classroom ready for the next voyage.
Feel free to explore the blog!
Below is a short presentation I will show on the first day of school. If you view this at home I suggest using the fullscreen option. After clicking the play button, click "more" on the bottom right for fullscreen. Navigate with the arrows.
